Joe Bishop

Joe is a veteran in the mortgage industry with over 20 years of experience. In recent years, Joe’s annual sales volume rank in the top 1% of all mortgage originators nationally, according to the Scotsman Guide’s Top Originators rankings. Prior to joining Ameris Bank through the merger with Fidelity Bank Mortgage, Joe was a former branch manager for Wells Fargo Financial, as well as a senior mortgage loan officer at SunTrust Mortgage, where he developed the basis of his mortgage knowledge.

Joe and his team operate in a very efficient manner, helping clients close on their mortgage “on-time” and with as little hassle as possible. Joe is known for treating clients like family and is dedicated to helping all clients understand their options before finalizing their mortgage decision. His availability, experience, and knowledge of available mortgage products is what separates Joe from other mortgage originators. He focuses on a wide variety of mortgage products, including 0% down purchase mortgages, Conforming and Jumbo mortgages, Government loans (FHA, VA, USDA), DPA and Grant loans, Construction-to-Permanent loans, Medical Professional Loans, as well as Portfolio mortgage products.

In 2023, Joe earned the #2 spot in mortgage production volume among Ameris Bank mortgage bankers in Georgia, and the #4 spot in mortgage production volume among Ameris Bank mortgage bankers nationwide.

Joe earned a B.A. in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting from Presbyterian College, where he also lettered 3 years playing baseball. A native of Greenwood, SC, Joe resides in Athens with his wife Leigh and their two children, Ford and Kate. They are members of the Athens Church, Athens Country Club and The Reserve at Lake Keowee.

Active in the community, Joe has served organizations such as the Athens, Oconee and Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, The Boys and Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, and the Athens Area Homebuilders Association. When not serving his clients, Joe enjoys spending time with his family, golf, travel, hunting, and fishing.
